A Zero-Waste Wool Mill!

Powered By The Sun

We pride ourselves in being a zero-waste wool mill.  Everything gets reused or composted.  Nothing goes to waste.

All of our machines run on the sun!  We have a wonderful solar PV system on the roof that powers all of the machines, including the picker that is housed in the greenhouse.  The greenhouse is also used to dry the wool.  Our solar thermal system heats the water to wash the wool.  We have propane back up for those dreary winter days with no sun,

Here are Wayne and Shane, the Sunshine Boys, installing the solar PV system.

Things have changed a bit since this photo was taken. The solar thermal is now on the roof.

The old solar PV array. It was destroyed in the fire. The new array is much smaller. Eight years made a difference in a lot of ways. One being safer, in the case of fire and an automatic shut-off system. The other is that the units are now just smaller in size, with the same capabilities.

Just a little greenhouse to dry the wool and house the picker. The wool shed on the left houses washed and unwashed wool. I call it "wool in waiting".
